ABB India has launched the ACS380-E machinery drive, expanding its all-compatible drive portfolio with a solution designed to support automation-focused machine builders and the country’s accelerating shift toward smart manufacturing. The new drive was unveiled at ENGIMACH 2025 in Gandhinagar and is aimed at simplifying machine integration while meeting future industrial and cybersecurity requirements.
As India’s manufacturing sector increasingly adopts digitalization, automation, and Industry 4.0 technologies, demand is rising for flexible, connected, and energy-efficient machinery. ABB said the ACS380-E has been engineered to address these needs by offering advanced connectivity, faster commissioning, and improved operational flexibility.
A key feature of the ACS380-E is its dual built-in Ethernet ports, which enable plug-and-play connectivity with all leading industrial automation networks. With selectable communication protocols available as standard, the drive eliminates the need for additional option modules, helping reduce wiring complexity, installation time, and overall system costs.
The drive also incorporates integrated cybersecurity features, supporting compliance with evolving regulatory standards. Fast USB-C “cold commissioning” allows users to configure settings and update firmware without powering on the drive, further shortening setup and commissioning time. Firmware access via Ethernet ensures the system can be kept up to date with the latest cybersecurity enhancements.
“Our customers across diverse industries will be well-equipped to build high-performance machines with the future-proof ACS380-E drive, offering robust cybersecurity, maximum uptime, and compliance with today’s and tomorrow’s regulatory demands,” said AR Madhusudan, President and Local Division Manager, Drive Products, ABB India.
The ACS380-E is designed for a wide range of industrial machinery applications, including textiles, cable and wire, plastics, intralogistics, packaging systems, conveyors, extrusion lines, and multi-axis machinery. It supports all common rotary motor types across global voltage ranges from 100 to 600 volts and delivers precise motor control for demanding automation environments.
ABB noted that the drive is compatible with all major automation platforms, including its AC500 PLC, as well as systems from other leading automation providers. Its compact design and flexible installation options allow it to fit easily into confined control cabinet spaces.
The drive is further enhanced by ABB’s Drive Composer software and is compatible with the latest Drive Composer 3, enabling simplified monitoring, adaptive programming, and rapid offline configuration. In India, the ACS380-E is available in ratings of up to 22 kW at 400 V.
ABB, a global leader in electrification and automation with more than 140 years of history and around 110,000 employees worldwide, said the launch of the ACS380-E underscores its commitment to supporting efficient, productive, and sustainable industrial operations under its “Engineered to Outrun” strategy.
