Mukand Limited has achieved a major sustainability milestone after being awarded the Green Steel certification by the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST). The recognition underscores the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing and reduced carbon intensity across its operations.
Under the certification framework, Mukand’s black bars received a 5-Star rating, while its wire rods and bright bars earned a 4-Star rating. The evaluation was conducted through an independent audit led by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in alignment with the Government of India’s Green Steel Taxonomy.
The audit process involved detailed verification of Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, plant-level energy consumption, and production data at the company’s Thane facility. The assessment confirms Mukand’s progress in implementing energy-efficient technologies, responsible resource management systems, and structured emissions monitoring protocols.
Approximately 58% of the plant’s electricity requirements during the reporting period were met through renewable energy sources, reflecting a significant shift toward cleaner power integration. The company is now advancing plans to transition to 100% renewable electricity through a hybrid solar–wind energy model. In parallel, a comprehensive energy efficiency program is being rolled out to further optimize consumption and strengthen overall environmental performance.
Green steel is increasingly viewed as a critical enabler of sustainable infrastructure and low-carbon manufacturing. By securing this certification, Mukand reinforces its position as a responsible producer of stainless steel long products while aligning with global decarbonization trends in heavy industry.
Company leadership described the certification as a key step in a broader sustainability roadmap, emphasizing continued investments in cleaner technologies and operational improvements. As part of the Bajaj Group, Mukand Limited continues to integrate innovation, operational excellence, and environmental stewardship across its business strategy.
With structured sustainability initiatives and measurable renewable energy adoption, the company aims to support customers and partners in meeting their environmental targets while contributing to the transition toward a more sustainable industrial ecosystem.
