Walter AG has introduced the Drion·tec E-Peak D5150, a new replaceable-head drilling system engineered to deliver high feed rates and enhanced metal-removal performance in demanding machining applications.
The D5150 is designed to operate without the need for pilot holes, eliminating an additional machining step and reducing overall cycle time. Its DS50 replaceable head can be changed directly inside the machine without screws, streamlining setup procedures and minimizing production downtime.
To ensure stability under high loads, the drill body features reinforced radial contact points and inclined axial contact surfaces that efficiently absorb cutting forces. A three-dimensional flute geometry with a large axis angle, combined with a high-performance through-coolant system, supports reliable chip evacuation—even when drilling on inclined or curved surfaces.
Process security was a central focus in the tool’s development. The patented cutting point design incorporates axial pull-out protection, helping maintain consistent torque retention after multiple head changes. Low-vibration DS50 heads further enhance centering accuracy and hole quality, supported by optimized point geometry and precision grinding.
Walter equips the interchangeable heads with a universal M-geometry and offers two cutting grades, WPP35 and WMS35. This configuration enables the drill to cover a wide range of ISO material groups, including P, M, S, K, N and H, reducing the need for multiple specialized tools across varied applications.
The initial product range includes diameters from 9 mm to 17.99 mm, including nominal inch sizes, and drilling depths of 3xD, 5xD and 8xD. Multiple head sizes can be paired with a single drill body, helping manufacturers lower inventory requirements and optimize procurement costs.
With its focus on productivity, cost efficiency and process reliability, the Drion·tec E-Peak D5150 expands Walter’s portfolio of high-performance drilling solutions aimed at modern machining environments.
