Eastman Auto and Power Limited has officially operationalized a massive 800-megawatt solar photovoltaic panel and module manufacturing facility in Sonipat, marking a significant milestone for India’s domestic renewable energy sector. This strategic move directly supports the national government’s push for self-reliance and the broader Make in India initiative by significantly boosting local solar production capabilities. The commissioning of the facility transforms Eastman into a fully backward-integrated solar solutions provider, offering an extensive range of products that includes solar PV panels and modules, grid-tie, off-grid, and hybrid inverters, alongside advanced energy storage batteries. By prioritizing local sourcing and expanding its manufacturing footprint, the company aims to reduce national dependence on imported solar components while strengthening the domestic supply chain.
A central focus of the new Sonipat facility is the development of comprehensive solar-plus-storage systems designed to deliver reliable, clean power access for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. These turnkey installations feature Domestic Content Requirement-compliant products that not only simplify regulatory compliance but also ensure seamless compatibility across all system components. This holistic approach is expected to reduce overall installation costs while improving the reliability of after-sales services. Shekhar Singal, Managing Director of Eastman Auto and Power Limited, emphasized that building a strong domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem is critical to accelerating rooftop solar adoption, particularly under government-supported schemes like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Ultimately, by delivering cost-effective and integrated energy solutions, Eastman is positioning itself as a key contributor to the long-term sustainability goals and the clean energy transition of India.
